Who We Are

About African Youth Collective

African Youth Collective (AYC) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne's western suburbs. We exist to support the wellbeing, belonging, and futures of young people from African backgrounds.

Our Story

African Youth Collective was founded by community members who saw firsthand the challenges facing African young people in Melbourne — social isolation, cultural disconnection, limited access to services, and a lack of spaces that truly understood their experience.

We started with a simple idea: bring people together. A BBQ. A game of soccer. A conversation. From those small beginnings, AYC has grown into a trusted organisation delivering programs across mental health prevention, sport, recreation, cultural celebration, and community connection.

Everything we do is grounded in the belief that community is the most powerful force for change. When young people feel seen, valued, and connected — they thrive.

Our Mission

"To strengthen the wellbeing, identity, and belonging of African young people in Melbourne through community-led programs, cultural connection, and the B-MAD prevention framework."

Community First

Every decision we make is guided by the needs and voices of the community we serve.

Cultural Pride

We celebrate African identity, heritage, and culture as a source of strength and resilience.

Prevention Over Crisis

We invest in connection and belonging before young people reach a point of crisis.

Inclusion

Our doors are open to all — regardless of background, faith, or circumstance.

Empowerment

We build capacity within the community, supporting young people to become leaders themselves.

Accountability

We are transparent, responsible, and committed to delivering real outcomes for the people we serve.

Our Impact

Since our founding, AYC has become a cornerstone of the African community in Melbourne's west — running weekly programs, supporting hundreds of young people, and building a network of connection that extends across families and generations.
