Midweek Connection & Community — 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Sunshine BBQ, Sunshine VIC
Wednesday BBQ
Break up your week with good food and great company. Every Wednesday, AYC hosts a free community BBQ — a welcoming midweek gathering for African young people and families to connect, share, and belong.
What is Wednesday BBQ?
Wednesday BBQ is part of AYC's Connection & Recreation program. It's a free, drop-in community gathering held every Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Sunshine BBQ, Sunshine VIC, giving African youth and families a consistent midweek touchpoint for social connection and cultural belonging.
Like all of AYC's BBQ programs, Wednesday BBQ is more than a meal. It's a space where relationships are built, stories are shared, and young people are reminded that they are part of a community that cares about them.
No registration, no cost, no barriers. Just show up — there's always enough food and always a warm welcome.

Why We Gather Midweek
Wednesdays can be the hardest day of the week — far from the weekend, full of pressure. AYC's Wednesday BBQ is a deliberate midweek intervention: a moment of rest, connection, and community in the middle of it all.
Consistency
Regular weekly touchpoints build trust, routine, and a sense of stability for young people who need it most.
Nourishment
A shared meal is one of the most universal acts of care. We make sure no one goes hungry — physically or socially.
Belonging
Seeing the same faces week after week builds genuine community bonds that extend far beyond the BBQ itself.
Prevention
Every Wednesday BBQ is a B-MAD outcome — reducing isolation and building the protective factors that support long-term wellbeing.

A Midweek Reset at Sunvale
